Johnny Cash is an American legend. Forever known as the “Man in Black,” his smooth baritone voice spawned more than 1,500 songs and 100 top-40 hits over a 40-year career. On stage he was all swagger, but his private life was dogged by demons and personal setbacks. Song by Song: Johnny Cash is the debut of Ovation’s Original series Song by Song, which explores the complex worlds of legendary musical artists hrough the lens of their music. Each episode of the 6-part series reveals the person behind the legend through a single signature song. Taken together, these “song stories” form a tapestry that reveals the drama of a life fully lived.
Doors Open is an entertaining and witty love story/caper full of dramatic tension and pathos— it’s a heist with a heart— and an unexpected plot twist. Doors Open, An Ovation Original, follows self-made millionaire Mike Mackenzie (Douglas Henshall) and close friend, Professor Gissing (played by Steven Fry) and their plan to swap a series of priceless masterpieces with brilliantly accurate forgeries. Based on best-selling author Ian Rankin’s 2008 novel, Doors Open was directed by Marc Evans and stars Stephen Fry, Douglas Henshall, Kenneth Collard and Lenora Critchlow. The production was shot on location in the Scottish Capital of Edinburgh and was produced by Steven Fry’s own production company, Sprout Pictures.
