José Cura
José Cura has already made opera history: he is the first person to sing and conduct an orchestra at the same time, for both concerts and recordings. Born in Argentina in 1962, Cura’s first instrument was the guitar of which he is now an accomplished player. Known as much for his voice as he is for the strength and immediacy of his acting, Cura has performed at the opera houses of Barcelona’s Teatro Liceu, New York’s Met, Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, Vienna State, and Zurich. His favorite roles are Verdi’s Othello and Saint-Saëns' Samson. Cura’s multi-tasking talents extend beyond the stage. He is the president of Cuibar Productions, a company that designs, creates, and produces musical spectacles from opera to pop events. What else can he do? Cura’s newest work is La Commedia e Finita, an opera, prose and dance piece for which he is overseeing the set design and the directing.
