Mickey Hart
Mickey Hart has championed the study and preservation of musical traditions, especially percussion. Hart was the drummer for the Grateful Dead (along with Bill Kreutzmann), and has recorded extensively as a solo artist. His collaborations with non-Western musicians are part of the WORLD series of recordings on Rykodisc. Hart is the author of several books about music, including Drumming at the Edge of Magic and Songcatchers: In Search of the World’s Music. Hart is involved with efforts to preserve musical traditions that are in danger of disappearing. He is on the Board of Trustees of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. In 2006 Hart teamed up again with Kreutzmann to re-form The Rhythm Devils, a percussion duo that tours to festivals, fund-raisers, and other events.
