Philippe Decouflé

The choreographer and filmmaker Philippe Decouflé is at the forefront of multimedia video-dance.  Much of Decouflé’s work is influenced by his early interest in acrobatics and mime, as well as his dance training under the American choreographer Alwin Nikolais, who pioneered contemporary dance with film. In 1983, he founded the Decouflé Company of Arts, surrounding himself with a long-standing team of dancers and collaborators. His film work includes advertising campaigns, music videos and short films such as Caramba (1986). Decouflé has been recognized more widely for his large-scale elaborate works like Shazam! and his production for the opening of the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France. His most recent work is Solo, a one-person performance using refracted images and projection screens along with mime and rhythmic movement.
