Yo-Yo Ma and Friends: Songs of Joy and Peace
The 60-minute special features Yo-Yo Ma recording his collaborative holiday album Songs of Joy & Peace with such musical super talents as James Taylor, Allison Krauss, Diana Krall, Dave Brubeck, René Fleming, Chris Botti, Diana Krall, Joshua Redman and more. The Songs of Joy & Peace CD, which was released this fall on Sony BMG Masterworks, is the biggest-selling record of Yo-Yo Ma's 30-year career. For his new album, the multiple Grammy-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma invited many of his favorite artists from the worlds of popular and classical music to collaborate on a selection of songs -- some sacred, some secular, some traditionally seasonal, some simply beloved -- connected in their sense of wonder. Yo-Yo Ma conceived of Songs of Joy & Peace as a universal holiday house party of music "uniting different forms of joy" with the idea of combining familiar material with songs that would offer the listener the gift of discovery performed by old friends and new. In this television World Premiere on Ovation TV, viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at how the album came together, witnessing some of the magical moments when these celebrated artists meet one another in the studio and perform these songs for the first time together.
