The Independent Network to Air U.S. Television Premiere on August 6
Ovation TV, America’s premier arts network, has signed a deal with A+E Networks® International for the linear rights for one season of Nordic noir spy thriller Red Election (10×60’). The exciting new series reflects the reality of living in a globalized world that is socially connected. Against a backdrop of simmering international tensions, the newly elected British Prime Minister announces a referendum to decide the future of Scotland in the United Kingdom. But behind the scenes, a shady foreign power seeks to influence the election, unleash its agents of chaos, and upset the world order. Starring Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones), Lydia Leonard (Gentleman Jack), and James D’Arcy (Homeland), Ovation TV will air the U.S. television premiere of Red Election on Saturday, August 6 at 7pm ET. Today’s announcement was made by Scott Woodward, EVP of Programming and Production, Ovation TV.
Danish secret service agent Katrine Poulson (Victoria Carmen Sonne) and British spy Beatrice Ogilvy (Leonard) are thrown together in a race against time. As a terrorist plot against the British PM (D’Arcy) unfolds, Poulson and Ogilvy are tangled up in a web of lies, murder, and power struggles; they can’t trust anyone, and they soon realize the deadly conspiracy could be part of a far-reaching geopolitical masterplan. The series also stars Dillane as Beatrice’s father, MI5 Director William Ogilvy; Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Doctor Strange, Justice League) as Senior MI5 Leader Levi Nichols; and Lorraine Burroughs (Silent Witness, Fortitude, Death in Paradise) as barrister Etta Cornwall, wife of the British PM.
“We are beyond thrilled to acquire the rights to Red Election, a fantastic Nordic series that will fit in perfectly with our Mystery Alley programming slate,” said Woodward. “Ovation’s viewers love our mystery content, and this spy thriller is a great addition to our robust library.”
“We are so excited to bring Red Election to Ovation TV,” said Ellen Lovejoy, SVP, International Content Sales and Head of Format Sales, A+E Networks. “Viewers will flock to this edge-of-your-seat, high-voltage, extremely timely thriller, with strong female leads, nuanced characters, and powerful storytelling.”
