ALI STROKER WINS TONY, MAKING HISTORY ON FOUR WHEELS

ALI STROKER WINS TONY, MAKING HISTORY ON FOUR WHEELS

Last night at the Tony Awards, Ali Stroker became the first person who uses a wheelchair to win the coveted Tony Award. Stroker won for her portrayal of Ado Annie in the current production of Oklahoma! It is exciting that Oklahoma!, a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical almost one hundred years old that is considered to have changed musical theater, is once again a part of history making.

Stroker made her Broadway debut in the revival of Spring Awakening in 2015. She is also an alumnus of The Glee Project.

Stroker saw her first Broadway show as a kid and decided that nothing would stop her from achieving her dream of performing on the Great White Way.  She dedicated her award to other people facing adversity:

This award is for every kid watching tonight who has a disability, who has a limitation or a challenge, who has been waiting to see themselves represented in this arena. You are.

Stroker also made a plea to make Broadway theatres more accessible for people with disabilities. She is making theatre more inclusive and becoming an inspiration in the process.
